Published by the OECD, The Better Life Index ranks Australia number 1 for quality of life amongst all the OECD member countries.
The OECD analysed 34 countries across 11 categories including income, housing, jobs, community, education, environment, civic engagement, health, life satisfaction, safety, and work-life balance.
Australia has long been a favoured UK emigrant destination, and this study which ranked Australia number 1 last year as well, provides plenty of support for that preference.
Australia ranked high for housing, civic engagement and health. The life expectancy at birth in Australia is 82 years, two years higher than the OECD average.
Australia also has exceptional voter turnout at 93% during recent elections, which is far above the OECD average of 72%.
Their full methodology for arriving at the rankings are explained here.
Happy Australia Day 2014!
